I was introduced to astrology by the book, Linda Goodmann’s Sun Signs. I was 15 when I read it for the first time and was thrilled and overwhelmed to read the chapter on Scorpios. I felt proud that I was one.
The trouble began when I started reading about my family members. My father was supposed to be a career-oriented, conservative Capricorn, but that was certainly not him. My mother was supposed to be a flamboyant, stylish Leo – again she was not. This led me to think if I was deluding myself that I was a Scorpio and wondered if I really had those awesome qualities Linda described in her book. Why didn’t my parents, and some others, reflect the exact qualities of their zodiac signs? The characteristics matched a few people I knew to the ‘T’ but were quite off the mark with many others.
Then, I re-read the introduction to the book and understood why. According to Linda, while the placement of the Sun in a horoscope is essential, the positions of the Moon and Mercury are also equally important as the Moon rules emotions and Mercury rules the thought processes.
That struck me like a bolt of lightning!
I had my computerized horoscope done immediately and saw to my horror that my Sun was actually in Libra, my Mercury in Scorpio and Moon in Aquarius!! I read the Libra and Aquarius chapters and realised that I actually possessed a concoction of the characteristics of all these three zodiac signs, in varying degrees. I then re-read all the zodiac signs from Aries to Pisces and was certain that I did not reflect any other sign except those where my Sun, Mercury and Moon were posited. But how could I be a Libran when I was born on the 15th of November? Moreover, according to Linda Goodmann, I was a Scorpio!
It took me a while to understand the difference between the Indian and Western methods of calculation. I realized that the NASA calculations and the Nirayana calculations of Indian astrology are almost in sync and began following the Nirayana method.
Over the next 20 odd years, I tried to verify my understanding with those I met. Whenever I was introduced to someone, I would be restless until I knew his birth date and year. Then, I would take a quick look at the positions of his Sun, Mercury and Moon and ‘follow’ him meticulously to reaffirm that his behaviour was indeed in accordance with the placement of these planets. My theory was working. After the painstaking compilation of over 13,000 horoscopes in 20+ years, I was convinced that my hypothesis was correct.
In the process, I have also discovered various other planets, asteroids and bodies that influence human beings in a major way. But more of that later.
I wanted to present to people my understanding of the most basic off-shoot of Astrology – Astro-Psychology.
We need to de-mystify and break the conventional wisdom that humans can only be of 12 types, representing the 12 Zodiac signs. The fact is that almost 95% of human beings are born with a combination of two or more Zodiac signs. Hence, there are not just 12 types of human beings, but 186 types! And these are the basic categories!
This book helps you identify and ‘know’ them all. It also provides you with insights into the people you deal with on a daily basis. It takes you on an interesting new journey into yourself. In the end, you are able to understand yourself better, be aware of your triggers, natural abilities, traits, characteristics and shortcomings. It helps you see your inner core.
ASTRONALITY is the art of knowing the personality of a person using astrology. There are 186 types of ASTRONALITIES. Sun, Mercury and Moon are your ‘personal’ planets; they form the basis of your personality. The permutations and combinations of the positions of the Sun, Mercury and Moon create all these types.
To know your zodiac combination and Astronality type, please go to the calculator in this webpage and fill in your birth details or those of the person whose Astronality combination you are looking for. The link to the calculator is www.truezodiacsign.com/calculator.html
You can also scan the adjacent image from your smart phone to go directly to the calculator.
Suppose the birth details are as follows: 27 December 1965, 2:30pm, Indore (Salman Khan). You see that the Sun is in Sagittarius, Mercury in Scorpio and Moon in Aquarius. So, Salman Khan is not a Capricorn. His Astronality combination is Scorpio-Sagittarius-Aquarius. Now, go to the chapter Scorpio-Sagittarius-Aquarius to know more about Salman Khan or any other person born under this category.
Interestingly, I also (re)discovered the one factor that I disagreed with Linda. Linda and a few astrologers believe that the ascending sign also plays a role in defining a personality. In my analysis of thousands of horoscopes I found that it is not true. The placement of the Sun, Mercury and Moon is sufficient to give enough indications of a personality. In fact, Venus also affects the human psyche to some extent by adding some spice to the personality. Hence, in cases where the Astronality combination indicates just one or two zodiac signs, you can also add the position of Venus to get a sharper analysis. For example, if your Sun and Mercury are in Taurus, the Moon in Cancer, and Venus in Gemini, your Astronality combination is Taurus-Cancer. But you can also read Taurus-Gemini-Cancer to add perspective to your personality.
Now, before you proceed to the combination signs, I urge you to read about them individually so that it makes better sense. For eg., if you are “Aries-Taurus”, it would do good to read about “Aries” and “Taurus” as individual signs first to get a better understanding of the combination.
If you are not sure of the exact time of your birth, even partial information like ‘in the morning’, ‘late in the evening’ etc., would suffice. You can key in an approximate time of birth and go ahead with the analysis. For example, we know that Sachin Tendulkar was born on the 24th of April 1973, but his time of birth is not known to all. We can key in any time from 00:01 am to 23:59 pm to discover that his Astronality combination remains the same, i.e. Aries-Sagittarius-Pisces.
Therefore, this book gives you insights into the people you are closest to. But, you can maximise its use by also gaining insights into those with whom you have minimal but important interactions. This includes hiring people or knowing more about your bosses or high profile clients. But most importantly, this book is about you.
So, now should you be reading your weekly predictions according to the new sun sign?. Well it doesn’t make a difference because 1/12th of the population of the world cannot have same fate unfolding in their lives at a given time. It’s not that simple. The synchronization of various planets in your birth chart weaves a unique symphony about you which is distinctly YOU and can never be the same as any other person in this world.
The long and intriguing journey of life starts with a small step…knowing yourself.
Bon voyage!
